New Meet Record Set in Night Two of SAC Swimming Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Carson-Newman's Daniel de Oliveira set a new meet record in the Men's 100 Butterfly to highlight night two of the South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships. Through the completion of event 18, Wingate leads both the men's and women's standings.
The night began with the Women's 100 Butterfly, as Carson-Newman's Chrisman Rand won the event with a time of 55.30 (D2B). Wingate's Vera Karlsson finished second with a time of 55.35 (D2B), and Carson-Newman's Kyla Blakemore finished third with a time of 56.24.
Daniel de Oliveira set the new meet record in the Men's 100 Butterfly with his time of 46.91 to beat the previous record of 47.65. Wingate's Mike Topchanalis took second in the event with a time of 47.59 and Carson-Newman's Daniel Ribeiro took third with a time of 48.08. All three men earned DII B Cuts in the event.
Wingate's Nadia Kertynska won the Women's 400 IM with a time of 4:25.83 (D2B). Teammate Franziska Muhlberger came in second with a time of 4:31.61 followed by Lenoir-Rhyne's Anna Buchert.
Wingate swept the Men's 400 IM, as Miguel Marcos took first (3:55.14), Kacper Korona took second (3:57.48) and Jack Wisniewski took third (3:57.72). All three Bulldogs earned a DII B Cut in the event.
In the Women's 200 Freestyle, Wingate's Nina Azirovic took first with a time of 1:50.61 followed by teammate Lucie Andrews in second with a time of 1:50.81. Carson-Newman's Kennadi King claimed third with a time of 1:51.18. All three women earned NCAA DII B Cuts.
Wingate's Ipkaev Damir won the Men's 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:38.00. Carson-Newman's Daniel de Oliveira took second with a time of 1:38.51 and Wingate's Anton Witzell took third with a time of 1:39.00. All three men earned NCAA DII B Cuts in the event.
The night was concluded with the 400 Medley Relay. On the women's side, Wingate took first with a time of 3:43.73 (D2B), Carson-Newman finished second at 3:44.25 (D2B), and Catawba finished third with a time of 3:53.59. For the men, Wingate took first with a time of 3:11.98, Carson-Newman took second with a time of 3:12.58, and Catawba took third with a time of 3:19.90.
