Lincoln Memorial's Burko and Lenoir-Rhyne's Hansson Named 2023 Men's and Women's Soccer Southeast Region Players of the Year; All-Region Teams Announced
ROCK HILL, SC (TheSAC.com) – The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced Lincoln Memorial's Daniel Burko and Lenoir-Rhyne's Elin Hansson as its 2023 Southeast Region Men's and Women's Soccer Players of the Year on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Also announced were the All-Region teams, with 12 SAC women and 16 SAC men.
A sophomore from Løvenstad, Norway, Burko was named South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after ranking second in the nation with 19 goals scored, helping lead the Railsplitters back to the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 11-5-3.
A sophomore from Halmstad, Sweden, Hansson was named the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season as she helped lead the Bears to Regular Season and Tournament Championships. She tallied 37 points on the season with 14 goals and nine assists, scoring at least one goal in 11 of the final 13 games of the regular season. She also notched six game winning goals on the year.
The South Atlantic Conference led the way in both the men's and women's selections with the most honorees, including seven First-Team and nine Second-Team members for the men and eight First-Team and four Second-Team members for the women.
The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
