The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played between Sept. 16 and Sept. 22. Wingate midfielder Elliot Cutts was named the offensive player of the week, while Carson-Newman goalkeeper Bram Kaarsgaren was named defensive player of the week.
Cutts, a senior from London, England, had a huge week for the No. 25 Bulldogs as he led them to a pair of SAC victories. He started the week by scoring a goal in the 79th minute of action against Coker, tying the match at two and sending it to overtime, where the Bulldogs eventually won 3-2. Cutts followed that performance by providing all the offensive firepower for Wingate in a 2-1 win over Anderson, as he scored both Bulldog goals. For the week he scored three goals on eight shots for six points. This is Cutts' first offensive player of the week accolade of the season.
Kaarsgaren, a junior from Den Bosch, Netherlands, anchored the Eagle defense in a pair of SAC victories last week. The Eagles opened the week with a 2-1 win over Lincoln Memorial where Kaarsgaren made six saves and had a .857 save percentage. He then led Carson-Newman to a 3-1 win over Newberry making four more saves with a .800 save percentage. For the week he posted a 2-0 record, allowing just two goals with 10 saves and a .833 save percentage. This is Kaarsgaren's first defensive player of the week honor of the year.
