SAC Places Three on ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team
ROCK HILL, SC -- The South Atlantic Conference placed three members on the ESPN The Magazine 2006 Men's Soccer Academic All-District III team.
Earning the honor were Daniel Waymont from Mars Hill College, the SAC Men's Scholar Scholar Athlete, Kerrin Sheldon and Chris Bohach from Wingate.
Mars Hill College
BRISTOL, CT - Mars Hill College's Daniel Waymont was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District III College Division Men's Soccer First Team announced officials Thursday.
Waymont, a junior forward from Weaverville, NC (North Buncombe HS) has a 3.91 GPA as a sports management major. He is a Grayson Scholar and a member of the Mars Hill College Dean's List and SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Waymont is a three-year letter winner for the Lions and ranked ninth in the league in goals per game. In the community, Waymont works with disable children at Mountain Hopes. He has also volunteered at Festival of Lights to benefit Special Olympics. He has twice been named the SAC Scholar Athlete.
A second team All-SAC selection in 2006, Daniel led the Lions in goals scored (9) and points scored (22). He ranked seventh in goals and eighth in points in the SAC.
The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from institutions within District III, which includes the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Wingate University
Wingate, N.C.--Wingate University junior defender Kerrin Sheldon (Moatsville, W.Va.) has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III men's soccer first team (college division), selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Bulldog junior midfielder Chris Bohach (Charleston, W.Va.) was named to the second team. Both Sheldon and Bohach earn All-District honors for the first time in their careers.
Wingate was the only school from the Carolinas with multiple selections. Mars Hill College, Greensboro College and USC Aiken had one selection each on the Academic All-District III men's soccer teams. District III (college division) includes all non-NCAA Division I schools (Division II, III and NAIA) in Florida, Georgia, Virginia and North and South Carolina.
The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (by districts) selected the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III men's soccer team. Twelve student-athletes were named first team Academic All-District III in men's soccer. Sheldon and the other 11 first team members will advance to the national ballot.
Kerrin Sheldon was named first team All-South Atlantic Conference in 2006. He was a second team All-SAC selection in 2005. During the 2006 season, Sheldon led the Bulldogs with seven goals. He was four-for-four on penalty kicks, tops on the team.
In addition, Sheldon was second on the team with two match-winning goals. Sheldon and his defensive mates allowed only 1.78 goals per match in 2006. He sports a 3.87 GPA in his Communication Studies major.
Chris Bohach tallied three assists in 2006. He assisted on the match-winner in Wingate's 1-0 triumph over New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Sept. 24, 2006. Bohach is a member of Wingate's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In addition, he works in Wingate University's sports information office. Bohach has a 3.35 GPA in Psychology with a minor in Exercise Science.
Student-athletes selected for Academic All-District honors must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. He must possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at her institution.
