Catawba’s Crowe Earns Men’s Soccer All-Region Honor
Catawba College freshman defender, Kenny Crowe (Reeders, PA), has been named to the NSCAA/adidas men's soccer All-Southeast Region team for 2002. Crowe, a former standout at Pocono Mountain High School, earned third team honors and was one of only four freshmen to make all-region honors.
Crowe started 19 matches for Catawba in his freshman campaign as a sweeper. He helped the defense to a pair of shutouts this season and a goals against average of 1.90. The Tribe allowed more than two goals in just four matches during the year.
On offense, Crowe added three goals, including the game-winner in a 3- 2 win over Virginia Intermont, where he made a key defensive save in the closing minutes to preserve the win. He also scored a game-winning goal against UNC-Pemborke and tallied the opening goal in the SAC Tournament first-round win over Mars Hill.
Catawba is member of the South Atlantic Conference, a NCAA II
league comprised of eight teams in North Carolina, South Carolina
and Virginia. Catawba posted a 12-8 record in 2002 and finished
fifth in the SAC.
