Great Runs From Wingate and Coker Come Up Just Short at Men's Golf Championships
Wingate falls to Oklahoma Christian in NCAA quarterfinals
Winter Garden, Fla.----The Wingate University men's golf team's wonderful run at the NCAA Division II national championships ended Friday morning with a 3.5-1.5 defeat to Oklahoma Christian in the match-play quarterfinals at the Orange County National Golf Center. Wingate's season ends with its first-ever appearance in the national quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs clinched a position in Friday morning's quarterfinal match with stellar play in the baking Florida heat during the stroke-play rounds Tuesday through Thursday. Wingate tied West Texas A&M for seventh place. The Bulldogs' low 18-hole score was a five-under-par 279 during Wednesday's second round.
