LMU’s Wasson Headlines SAC Men’s Golf Award Winners
Lincoln Memorial junior Rand Wasson has been voted as the 2013-14 SAC Men’s Golf Player of the Year, leading Thursday’s announcement of the conference’s award winners.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lincoln Memorial junior Rand Wasson has been voted as the 2013-14 SAC Men's Golf Player of the Year, leading Thursday's announcement of the conference's award winners.
Wasson currently has the SAC's top adjusted scoring average, per GolfStat.com, at 73.11 He won the individual title at March's Tusculum Invitational, and posted three second-place finishes at events this season.
Wasson is the second-straight Railsplitter to earn SAC Player of the Year honors and third in school history, joining Jamie Chapman in 2013 and Eric Kennedy in 2010.
Wasson is joined on the All-SAC First Team - which is determined by adjusted scoring average – by Wingate's Benedict Gebhardt, Carson-Newman's Jonathan Kim-Moss, Queens' Alex Weare and LMU's Braden Galyon.
Gebhardt has an adjusted scoring average of 73.28, Kim-Moss is at 73.37, Weare has an average of 73.56, and Galyon stands at 73.61.
Adjusted scoring averages also determined the All-Conference Second Team and Honorable Mention Team. Newberry's Tommy Hurst, Lenoir-Rhyne's John White, Coker's Josh Clay and Queens' Jake McLaren and Evan Ruhling make up the Second Team, while Mars Hill's Adam Lumley, Catawba's Tyler Rutherford, LMU's Tre Mullins, Catawba's Matt Hardman and Coker's Christopher Fuga earned honorable mention honors.
Lumley also earned SAC Freshman of the Year accolades after finishing the regular season with a 74.59 adjusted scoring average. He won individual titles at the King Invitational and State Farm Intercollegiate in the fall.
In his program's first season in the SAC, Queens' Sam Puryear was voted as the conference's Coach of the Year. The Royals won the Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate in March, and registered two runner-up finishes in the fall.
Each award winner will compete at the upcoming 2014 Food Lion SAC Golf Championship in Sevierville, Tenn. The event gets underway on Sunday.
