SAC Student-Athlete Insider: Men’s Golf
With men's golf tournaments set to get underway in early February, several men's golf student-athletes discussed the upcoming season with theSAC.com.
What most excites you about the upcoming season?
Clifford Blanquicet, Jr., Wingate: "It is exciting
to know that we have a team this year that can compete in the
conference championship, the regional championship and even at the
national championship if we are on our game."
Jamie Chapman, Lincoln Memorial: "I am most looking forward to conference championship to try and get another title and I'm looking forward to reaching my goal of getting All-American honors."
What was the most challenging aspect of your offseason
preparations, and how will that benefit you once the season gets
underway?
Clifford Blanquicet, Jr., Wingate: "The most
challenging part of the off-season was staying dedicated when it
was very cold outside and when there are so many commitments during
the Christmas season."
Jamie Chapman, Lincoln Memorial: "I feel the most challenging part of offseason training is the actual fitness work we do, although it is hard work I feel it will pay off in the season."
What are the keys for your team to achieve its goals
this season?
Clifford Blanquicet, Jr., Wingate: "The keys for
our golf team this semester is to be patient on and off the golf
course, play with confidence and have fun! Our team is good enough
to do great things; we just have to use our talent in positive ways
to get positive results."
Jamie Chapman, Lincoln Memorial: "Our team can achieve our goals if we have a good support system and help each other learn from our experiences and mistakes. Golf is an individual sport as well as a team, and by encouraging each other through good and bad days we can prosper both on an individual level and team level."
In what ways do you try to serve as a leader on your team and on your campus?
Clifford Blanquicent, Jr., Wingate: "I always
check on my teammates to make sure everything is going well and I
show interest in their golf game and hopefully they feel that I am
here for them if they need anything on and off the course. I also
motivate them to work harder and go above and beyond what coach
asks of us, so we can be the best team we can be."
