Top-Seed Lincoln Memorial Downs Mars Hill
HARROGATE, TENN. - Five Railsplitters scored in double figures as nationally ranked No. 2 and top-seeded Lincoln Memorial defeated the No. 8 seed Mars Hill 101-65 in the quarterfinals of the 2020 SAC Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Championship. LMU's Devin Whitfield led all scorers with 30 points, while Rhondi Hackett scored 16 points, Cameron Henry had 13 points, and Anthony Brown and Courvoisier McCauley added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Matthew Powell led Mars Hill with 24 points and Jamal Bryant added 12 points for the Lions.
Queens Holds on to Defeat Lenoir-Rhyne
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The No. 2 seed Queens used a strong second half to overcome a two-point second-half deficit to defeat the No. 7 seed Lenoir-Rhyne 106-96. A quartet of players scored in double figures to lead the Royals. Daniel Carr led the way with 28 points, followed by Kenny Dye with 22 points, Van Turner with 20 points and Jamari Smith with 14 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne had five players net 10 plus points with R.J. Gunn and Darius Simmons leading the Bears with 21 points each. Mason Hawks poured in 20, Tyson McClain came off the bench to score 12 and Cooper Fowler added 10 points to the Bears' efforts.
Catawba Battles Past Newberry to Advance to Semifinals
SALISBURY, N.C. - After trailing by eight points at halftime, the No. 6 Newberry Wolves nearly upset the No. 3 Catawba Indians, but Catawba held on for an 89-87 win to advance to the semifinals of the SAC Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Championship.
Catawba's Marcell Haskett led all scorers with 38 points and Malik Constantine added 15 points fo the Catawba Indians. Luke Gibson was the Wolves top scorer with 23 points, while Marcus Ford and T.J. Brown scored 16 points each. Marshall Lange rounded out the Newberry double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Tusculum Moves on to SAC Pilot Flying J Semifinals for First Time Since 2011
GREENEVILLE, TENN. - The No. 4 seed Tusculum Pioneers are moving on to the semifinals of the SAC Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Championship for the first time in nearly a decade after they defeated the No. 5 seed Anderson Trojans 86-65. Trenton Gibson led the Pioneers with 19 points, while Zack Dixon added 17 points and Dillon Smith had 10 points.
Josh Livingston was the leading scorer for the Trojans with 16 points off the bench, while Satchel Hester and Shawn Benard each had 13 points.
