Queens Earns No. 2 Seed in Elite Eight, Face Cal Baptist in National Quarterfinals
The Royals will face the No. 7 seed California Baptist Lancers on Tuesday (March 20) at 7 p.m. (EST) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Southeast Region Champion and No. 7 Queens University of Charlotte Royals have earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight. The Royals will face the No. 7 seed California Baptist Lancers on Tuesday (March 20) at 7 p.m. (EST) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Queens (31-3) advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2003 after defeating top-ranked Lincoln Memorial University, 69-57, in the fourth meeting of the season between the pair on Tuesday evening.
The Royals become the fourth South Atlantic Conference school to reach the Elite Eight. Lincoln Memorial went in 2016 and 2017, while Anderson made it to the Elite Eight in 2011 and Wingate in 2007.
No. 21 Cal Baptist grabbed an 80-76 victory over No. 3 Western Oregon for its first West Region Championship. Kalidou Diouf led the Lancers with 23 points, while Jordan Heading chipped in 15 points. The duo was named to the all-tournament team, with Diouf grabbing Most Outstanding Player honors.
The winner of the Queens/Cal Baptist matchup with advance to the semifinals to play the winner of No. 3 Northern State and No. 6 East Stroudsburg on Thursday (March 22).
