The South Atlantic Conference Places Three Schools in the Top 20 and Nine Total Schools on the 2015-16 Fall/Winter Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Through the fall and winter season, The South Atlantic Conference has nine member institutions represented in the 2015-16 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, including three in the Top 20. The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.
Queens leads the South Atlantic Conference at No. 3 in the standings with 402.50 points, followed by Wingate at No. 6 with 369 points. Carson-Newman is currently 18th with 273 points to round out the South Atlantic Conference in the Learfield Top 20.
Lenoir-Rhyne is currently ranked No. 86 with 128 points and at No. 120 in the standings is Lincoln Memorial with 90 points. Newberry sits at No. 135 as it has collected 81 points, while Mars Hill is No. 180 with 49 points. Coker's 46.50 points is good for No. 182 and Catawba rounds out the list for the South Atlantic Conference at No. 195 and 25 points.
Queens won the 2015-16 Men's and Women's Swimming National Championship to earn 100 points in each category. The Royals' women's indoor track and field team added 64.5 points to the total with as they came in at No. 11 at the NCAA Division II Nationals. Queens' men's basketball team advanced to the Southeast Regional Semifinals and picked up 50 points in the Learfield standings.
Wingate finished second at the 2015-16 NCAA Women's Swimming Championship to garner 90 points and placed 16th on the men's side to collect 42 points. The Bulldog men's indoor track and field squad finished 32nd at the 2015-16 NCAA Division II Nationals to pick up 42 points. The Wingate men's basketball team moved to the Southeast Regional Semifinals and earned the Bulldogs 50 points in the standings.
Carson-Newman placed No. 16 at the NCAA Women's Swimming National Championship and received 58.5 points. Carson-Newman's men's indoor track and field team recorded 27.5 points as they came in at No. 46 at Nationals.
Lincoln Memorial's men's basketball team finished as the 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Runner-Up to grab 90 points in the Learfield rankings, while Lenoir-Rhyne men's basketball team advanced to the Southeast Regional Finals to collect 64 points.
Newberry finished 18th in wrestling to pick up 56 points, while Coker's wrestlers placed 27th at the Division II Nationals to garner 46.5 points.
