Eight SAC Teams Earn Spots in Latest NCAA Basketball Regional Rankings
A total of eight programs from the SAC have earned spots in this week’s NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball regional rankings, including the Lincoln Memorial men, the Southeast Region’s new top-ranked team.
INDIANAPOLIS – A total of eight programs from the SAC have earned spots in this week's NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball regional rankings, including the Lincoln Memorial men, the Southeast Region's new top-ranked team.
The regional rankings are the official poll utilized by the NCAA Division II Basketball Committees during the NCAA Tournament selection process.
The Lincoln Memorial men are currently 21-4 overall and 17-3 against Division II opponents. The Railsplitters clinched at least a share of the regular-season SAC title with a victory at Wingate Wednesday night, and are 14-3 in the conference.
LMU is joined in the men's poll by No. 7 Wingate, No. 8 Anderson and No. 10 Carson-Newman. Wingate and Anderson are both 17-8 overall, while Carson-Newman is 19-6.
At 13-4 in SAC play, Anderson and Wingate both remain alive for a share of the regular-season conference championship. Carson-Newman is 12-5 in the league.
In the women's poll, Anderson is the SAC's highest-rated team at No. 3. The Trojans – 20-7 overall and 14-3 in the SAC – clinched a share of the conference championship on Wednesday by defeating Brevard.
Just behind AU in the regional rankings is Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 4. L-R is currently 18-7 overall, and at 13-4 in the SAC remains in contention for a share of the league title.
Also earning spots in the poll are No. 9 Catawba and No. 10 Newberry. Catawba is 15-10 overall and 11-6 in the SAC, while Newberry is 18-9 overall and 10-7 in the league.
One more set of regional rankings will be released next week in advance of NCAA Tournament selections on Sunday, March 10.
