Mount Olive's Congleton, Limestone's Bergmann, & Converse's Pistaccio Named 2023 NFHCA First Team All-Americans
GENEVA, N.Y. - In acknowledgement of outstanding performances during the 2023 season, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) proudly presents 32 Division II student-athletes as the 2023 NFHCA All-Americans, sponsored by The LineUp. Three South Atlantic Conference athletes were among those honored: On the First Team, Mount Olive's Avery Congleton and on the Second Team, Limestone's Zoe Bergmann and Converse's Catalina Pistaccio.
Congleton was named the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Offensive Player of the Year, the first-ever UMO recipient of the accolade. Additionally, she garnered All-SAC First-Team status after a breakout senior campaign for the Trojans. Congleton recorded 37 points and paced the team with 14 goals, which are both single-season school records. She also dishes out nine assists and scored a trio of game-winning goals. She finished among the top 10 in the NCAA Division II with 2.18 points, 0.82 goals, and 0.65 assists per game. In her four-year career at Mount Olive, she finished with 63 points on 24 goals and 15 assists while playing in 56 matches. Additionally, she is a two-time All-SAC First-Team selection.
Bergmann, in her first full season with the Blue and Gold was a catalyst for an offense that outscored their opponents 36-16 on the season. The midfielder led the Saints with 11 goals and 28 points while her six assists were second on the team. She registered a season-high two goals on three separate occasions while also providing three game-winners.
Pistaccio started all 18 games for the Valkyries this season and led the team in points (30), goals scored (11), assists (8), total shots (66) and shots on goal (34). This is the third time in her career that Pistaccio has been named to the All-SAC First Team. Earlier this season, Pistaccio earned NFHCA and SAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after a four goal performance against Mercyhurst.
