Newberry's Drury Named 2023 South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Lily Drury was named the South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Drury, a senior from Ballarat, Australia, has a 3.89 grade point average while studying biology. She has been named to the Newberry College Dean's List, SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, NFHCA National Academic Team, and NFHCA Scholars of Distinction for every year that she has competed.
On the field, Drury started in all 18 games for the Wolves her senior year while playing as a midfielder. She had one assist on the season as she moved from forward to midfielder. Drury has twice been named to the Preseason First Team All-SAC selection and concluded her sophomore season with Second Team All-SAC honors. Drury was named the 2020 SAC Freshman of the year and earned First Team All-SAC honors during the shortened COVID season after scoring 20 points on 10 goals in just eight games. Additionally, Drury was awarded the Community Player of the Year Wolfie award during her time as a Newberry student-athlete.
