The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Field Hockey Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Field Hockey Players of the Week for games played in during the seventh week of the 2023 season. Newberry's Emma Westbrook was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Mount Olive's Maud van Duin was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Westbrook, a sophomore from Dover, Del., scored her second straight hat trick along with an assist in the No. 9 Wolves' 6-0 victory at home Saturday over Lincoln Memorial. Westbrook, last week's SAC and National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week, now has four hat tricks on the year and leads the nation in goals per game at 1.54 with a school record 20 goals in 13 matches.
van Duin, a sophomore from Hazerswoude-Rijndijk, Netherlands, led the Mount Olive backline from the center-back position, as the No. 5 Trojans recorded a 2-0 mark in conference play. On Tuesday afternoon, van Duin and the defense held Wingate to just five total shots during the match in a 6-1 victory.
