The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Football Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during the second week of the spring season. Tusculum quarterback Rogan Wells was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Jon Ross Maye was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Carson-Newman kicker Christian Erwin picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Well, a graduate student from Fort Mill, S.C., led the Pioneers to a 58-20 win over Mars Hill last week. He threw for 308 yards with four touchdowns. Five of his passes went for 30 or more yards, including touchdown passes of 10, 64, 44, and 51 yards. He finished the game going 14-for-25 for 56 percent with a quarterback efficiency of 212.3.
Maye, a freshman from Johns Creek, Ga., led the Bears to a 27-20 overtime win against Newberry with a game-high 14 tackles, including six solo tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a quarterback hurry.
Erwin, a freshman from York, S.C., scored the final 12 points for the Eagles in their 40-37 overtime win against UVA Wise. Erwin connected on four of five field goals, including a career-high 49 yard field goal that forced overtime. He also was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points.
