Five SAC Football Players Sign NFL Deals
Following the completion of the 2014 NFL Draft, five former SAC players have signed undrafted free agent or rookie tryout deals with teams across the league.
NEW YORK CITY – Following the completion of the 2014 NFL Draft, five former SAC players have signed undrafted free agent or rookie tryout deals with teams across the league.
Those reaching undrafted free agent deals are Newberry's Corey Washington with the Arizona Cardinals, Catawba's L.J. McCray with the San Francisco 49ers, Catawba's Danny O'Brien with the Atlanta Falcons, and Carson-Newman's Anthony Baskin with the Indianapolis Colts. Newberry's Jamal Ellis, meanwhile, inked a rookie tryout deal with the Green Bay Packers.
Washington, a wide receiver, was named to the D2Football.com All-America Second Team, the Daktronics All-Region First Team, the Don Hansen All-Region Second Team and the All-SAC First Team in 2013. He finished the season with 44 receptions for 839 yards and 13 touchdowns.
McCray, a safety and return specialist, averaged 22.7 yards on kick returns along with 43 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. He was a Daktronics All-Region Second Team pick at safety and an All-SAC First Team selection at defensive back and return specialist.
O'Brien threw for 2,490 yards and 15 touchdowns from the quarterback position in his only season at Catawba. He completed 68-percent of his attempts while tossing just six interceptions.
Baskin finished last season with 43 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery at the safety position for Carson-Newman.
Elli was voted to the D2Football.com All-America Second Team, the Daktronics All-Region First Team, the Don Hansen All-Region Second Team and the All-SAC First Team as an offensive lineman.
