19 SAC Football Players Make Don Hansen All-America Team
19 SAC football players have earned spots on the 2013 Don Hansen Division II All-America Team, led by first-team fullback selection Isaiah Whitaker of Lenoir-Rhyne.
PITTSBURG, Kan. – 19 SAC football players have earned spots on the 2013 Don Hansen Division II All-America Team, led by first-team fullback selection Isaiah Whitaker of Lenoir-Rhyne.
Whitaker ranked ninth in the SAC in 2013 with 912 rushing yards, and his 10 rushing touchdowns tied for fourth in the conference. He had a pair of 100-plus yard performances during the season and scored two touchdowns in Lenoir-Rhyne's NCAA Football Championship national semifinal victory over West Chester.
Three SAC players – including two more from national runner-up Lenoir-Rhyne – were selected to the Second Team. Tusculum's Wesley Powell was named the team's tight end, while L-R's Jimmy Long earned accolades on the defensive line and Michael Green was a pick at safety.
The Third Team included six SAC players, led by the Mars Hill trio of running back Shaikel Davis, wide receiver Dimitri Holmes and linebacker Sammy Siasia. They are joined on the Third Team by Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell and Lenoir-Rhyne defensive end Blake Baker.
Rounding out the SAC's list of Don Hansen All-Americans are nine honorable mention picks. Earing selections were Brevard linebacker Michael Gruber, Carson-Newman linebacker Jaycob Coleman and cornerback Eien Jacob, Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Tanner Botts and kicker Zach Neumann, Mars Hill defensive end Troy Harris, Newberry return specialist Jason Livingston, and Tusculum linebacker Brian Alexander and wide receiver Justin Houston.
Bloomsburg quarterback Franklyn Quiteh was named the Don Hansen Offensive Player of the Year, while Colorado St.-Pueblo defensive end Darius Allen was voted as the Defensive Player of the Year.
