33 SAC Football Players Named to Don Hansen All-Region Team
A total of 33 student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the 2013 Don Hansen All-Super Region II football team, led by Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell, the region’s Offensive Player of the Year.
BROOKFIELD, Ill. – A total of 33 student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the 2013 Don Hansen All-Super Region II football team, led by Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell, the region's Offensive Player of the Year.
Additionally, Lenoir-Rhyne's Mike Houston was voted as the region's Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to a SAC title and a spot in the NCAA Division II Football Championship national title game.
Cordell, a Harlon Hill Trophy finalist, threw for 3,920 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2013, becoming Division II's all-time leader in passing yards and total yards.
Cordell is joined on the Don Hansen First Team offense by Lenoir-Rhyne fullback Isaiah Whitaker, Mars Hill running back Shaikel Davis, Mars Hill receiver Dimitri Holmes, Tusculum tight end Wesley Powell, Carson-Newman tackle Alex Taylor and Lenoir-Rhyne kicker Zach Neumann.
Earning All-Region First Team defense selections were Mars Hill lineman Troy Harris, Lenoir-Rhyne lineman Blake Baker, Lenoir-Rhyne tackle Jimmy Long, Carson-Newman linebacker Jaycob Coleman, Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Tanner Botts, Lenoir-Rhyne safety Michael Green, Carson-Newman cornerback Eien Jacob and Newberry return specialist Jason Livingston.
10 more SAC players earned All-Region Second Team selections. Brevard fullback Jordan Ollis, Carson-Newman running back Brandon Baker, Tusculum receiver Justin Houston, Newberry receiver Corey Washington, Newberry guard Jamal Ellis and Carson-Newman kicker Curt Duncan earned accolades on offense, while Carson-Newman lineman Javaris Neal, Mars Hill linebacker Sammy Siasia, Tusculum linebacker Brian Alexander and Brevard linebacker Michael Gruber received nods on defense.
The All-Region Third Team features eight SAC players – four on offense and four on defense. Receiving selections to the team were Newberry fullback Wesley Brown, Lenoir-Rhyne running back Jarrod Spears, Lenoir-Rhyne offensive tackle Joe Ray, Mars Hill offensive tackle Denzell Goode, Wingate defensive lineman Nick Napolitano, Catawba defensive tackle Jonathan Jean, Catawba linebacker Jason Taylor and Brevard cornerback Jacob McCleery.
