Four Named to AP Little All-America Football Team
ROCK HILL, SC -- Four of the most decorated football players in the South Atlantic Conference picked up more accolades by being named to the prestigious Associated Press Little All-America Football Team. The AP Little All-America Team is made up of players from NCAA Divisions II, III and NAIA.
Mars Hill linebacker Khalid Abdullah and Catawba College standout linebacker Todd McComb were both selected to the First Team. Carson-Newman College quarterback Leonard Guyton was named to the Second Team, and Tusculum College offensive lineman Alan Dunn was named to the Third Team.
Abdullah adds this award to many postseason awards he has
received this year. He has been selected an American Football
Coaches All-American, Daktronics, Inc. First Team All-American and
a D2Football.com All-American this season. He was the SAC Defensive
Player of the Year and a four-time member of the All-SAC teams.
Abdullah is from Jacksonville Beach, FL. He attended Fletcher High
School.
McComb, a senior from Thomasville High School, led Catawba team
with 99 tackles. He finished all-time at Catawba with 401 career
stops. He was credited with four sacks and added a pair of
interceptions and forced a fumble. He was a two-time All-SAC
selection and a four-time all-region pick.
Carson-Newman College quarterback Leonard Guyton was named to the
Second Team. The Thomasville, Ga.-native was one of eight finalists
for the Harlon Hill Award in 2002, the award that goes to the top
player in Division II football. Guyton helped lead the Eagles to a
12-1 record, to C-N's 16th conference championship and the
quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Guyton enjoyed one
of the best careers of any quarterback to ever play for
Carson-Newman. After sitting out the 2001 season with a back
injury, Guyton returned to the Eagle lineup and rewrote the
Carson-Newman record book. Guyton holds the school record for total
career yardage with 6,626, career offensive attempts with 897,
career points with 460, career touchdowns scored with 75, career
touchdown passes with 41 and has 4,981 career passing yards. Guyton
had a career record of 38-5 and led the Eagles to three conference
championships and two appearances in the NCAA Division II National
Championship game.
Tusculum College offensive lineman Alan Dunn was named to the Third
Team. Dunn, a 6-7 junior offensive tackle from Chattanooga, Tenn.,
becomes the first Tusculum gridder to be named to the AP squad. He
continues to add hardware to an already impressive season. Last
month, was named to the D2Football.com All-America Second Team.
Dunn is a two-time Daktronics NCAA II All-South Region pick,
including this year as he earned First Team honors. Dunn was named
the 2002 recipient of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is awarded
to the best lineman or blocking back in the South Atlantic
Conference. He has twice been named to the All-SAC First Team and
was a preseason All-American selection according to the Football
Weekly Gazette.
