Tusculum, Catawba Earn NCAA Baseball Championship Bids
INDIANAPOLIS - Tusculum and Catawba have earned selections to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, it was announced on Sunday night. Tusculum is the Southeast Region's No. 2 seed, while Catawba is the region's No. 5 seed.
The two teams will meet each other in the first round on Thursday, May 17 at Mount Olive, which earned the region's top seed and will serve as the host institution.
Tusculum finished the regular season 46-8 overall and won both the SAC regular season and tournament championships. TC was ranked third in last week's NCBWA national poll.
By winning the SAC Tournament title, the Pioneers earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
Catawba, meanwhile, will enter the NCAA Championship at 39-14 overall. The Indians finished just a game back of Tusculum in the SAC regular season standings.
Catawba received an at-large bid to the Championship.
Tusculum won two of three head-to-head matchups with Catawba during the regular season. The two teams also met in the regional tournament in 2008, with Catawba coming out on top.
Game times for Thursday's first round have yet to be announced.
