SAC Well Represented on NCBWA All-Region Team
A total of 13 baseball student-athletes were named All-Southeast Region selections by the NCBWA on Thursday, headlined by region Pitcher of the Year Craig Goodman of Tusculum.
WILSON, N.C. – A total of 13 baseball student-athletes were named All-Southeast Region selections by the NCBWA on Thursday, headlined by region Pitcher of the Year Craig Goodman of Tusculum.
Four SAC players earned first-team honors, three were named to the second team and six received honorable mention accolades.
Goodman – who was also named to the All-Region First Team – went 10-0 with a 2.09 ERA for Tusculum this season, leading the Pioneers to a conference title and the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Championship Southeast Regional.
The senior recorded 80 strikeouts in 86 innings pitched, and allowed opponents to hit just .228.
He was joined on the All-Region First Team by teammate Cade Stallings, who hit .373 with 11 home runs at third base this season.
Stallings also drove in 63 runs and hit 11 doubles. He compiled a slugging percentage of .612 on an on-base percentage of .480.
Lincoln Memorial second baseman Andrew Rodriguez also earned first-team honors after finishing the season with a .414 batting average and a .494 OBP. Rodriguez also added 12 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI for the Railsplitters.
Wingate outfielder Casey Allison earned the SAC's final spot on the All-Region First Team. Allison had a monster year at the plate for the Bulldogs, notching 22 home runs and 18 doubles en route to putting up a .744 slugging percentage.
He also hit .352, drove in 68 runs and had an OBP of .430, leading WU to a runner-up finish at the SAC Championship.
Catawba – which earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Baseball Championship – placed two players on the NCBWA All-Region Second Team in starting pitcher JJ Jankowski and designated hitter Garrett Furr. Jankowski was the SAC co-Pitcher of the Year.
Joining the Catawba duo on the Second Team was Carson-Newman first baseman Kyle Koeneman – the SAC Player of the Year.
Receiving All-Region Honorable Mention accolades were Anderson catcher Brett Scarberry, Wingate third baseman Jacob Karr, Catawba outfielder Ethan Satterfield, Tusculum outfielder Alexi Colon, Newberry starting pitcher Josh McElwee and Tusculum reliever John-Austin Shepard.
