Tusculum’s Maikol Gonzalez Named MVP Of 2008 Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum College second baseman Maikol Gonzalez, who hit .563 with a tournament-high four stolen bases and helped lead the Pioneers to the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference baseball tournament championship, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Joining Gonzalez on the All-Tournament Team from the Pioneers are pitcher Rob Currie, who threw a complete-game victory in the championship game; pitchers Eric Donahue, who picked up a win and struck out seven in a victory over Carson-Newman; and Boo Morrow, who struck out seven against Lenoir-Rhyne; third baseman Paul Finger, who hit .462, and first baseman Sean Cotton, who had eight RBI in the tournament.

Tournament runner-up Catawba had five All-Tournament selections: Second baseman Chad Baker, who hit .500 with seven RBI and seven doubles; catcher Ryan Query, who hit .500; outfielder Matt Kepley, who had four BRI and four doubles; pitchers Brett Hatley, who allowed just two hits while facing 26 batters in 7.1 innings; and Tim Smith, who had a win and a save.
Also making the All-Tournament Team were Nick Siega-Riz and Scott Kelly from Wingate; Brett Hontz from Carson-Newman and Casio Grider from Newberry.
The All-Tournament Team is selected by the league's head coaches.
