Anderson's Mollenhauer and Lincoln Memorial's Broadhurst Named 2018-19 South Atlantic Conference Athletes of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson University's Alexy Mollenhauer and Lincoln Memorial University's Sam Broadhurst have been selected as the 2018-19 South Atlantic Conference Athletes of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday (June 19). The Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards are selected by a vote of the league's athletic directors.
Mollenhauer, a junior guard on the Trojan women's basketball team, was named SAC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP this season. She was named D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year, was a D2CCA First Team All-America, and WBCA All-America. The six-time SAC AstroTurf Player of the Week eclipsed the 1,000-point mark, recorded 22 double-doubles, and pulled down 369 rebounds during the 2018-19 season. She started in all 33 games and averaged 34.1 minutes, 19.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game to go along with 43 blocks and 39 steals.
Off the court, Mollenhauer was named the SAC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA in English/secondary English education. Additionally, she was a 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Women's Basketball First Team selection and a Google Cloud Academic All-District® honoree.
The Lindale, Texas native led the Trojans to a perfect 20-0 conference record, a 28-game winning streak, a SAC regular season title, a SAC tournament title, and hosting rights for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
Broadhurst, a senior from Nuneaton, England on the LMU men's golf team, finished the season ranked No. 2 nationally, and first in the southeast region by Golfstat with an adjusted scoring average of 71.04. He finished in the top-20 in all 13 tournaments, earning individual medalist honors in four events, including placing first in the NCAA DII South/Southeast Regional. He has also shot par or better in 22 of his 38 rounds, recording nine top-10 and seven top-five finishes, and he tied his career-low round of 64 in the Bearcat Golf Classic this season.
A PING All-Region and All-American selection, he was a finalist for the Division II Jack Nicklas Award for the top golfer in NCAA Division II. He also led the Railsplitters to a runner-up finish at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship.
Mollenhauer becomes the first-ever Female Athlete of the Year honoree from Anderson, while Broadhurst's selection marks the second straight Lincoln Memorial Male Athlete of the Year, following Emanuel Terry's selection in 2017-18.
