Wingate Wins 2014 SAC Women’s Cross Country Title
The Wingate women won the 2014 South Atlantic Cross Country Championships at the Salisbury Community Park in Salisbury, N.C. on Saturday morning. Queens’ Megan Wright claimed the women’s individual title on the 5K course to take home the women’s Runner of the Year honor
SALISBURY, N.C. - The Wingate women won the 2014 South Atlantic Cross Country Championships at the Salisbury Community Park in Salisbury, N.C. on Saturday morning. Queens' Megan Wright claimed the women's individual title on the 5K course to take home the women's Runner of the Year honor.
The Bulldogs posted 47 points and were followed by Queens with 85 points. Anderson claimed third with 92 points and in fourth was Lenoir-Rhyne with 101 points. Lincoln Memorial's 106 points was good for fifth and in sixth was Mars Hill with 110 points. Brevard claimed the No. 7 position with 207 points and Coker placed eighth with 217 points. Carson-Newman finished No. 9 with 232 points, ahead of Tusculum who came in 10th with 292 points. Newberry rounded out the field with 324 points. Catawba did not run enough women to place in the team standings.
Wright posted a winning time of 18:12, followed by teammate Catie Byrd who clocked in at 18:28. Mars Hill's Jessica Viscusi placed third with a time of 18:37 and in fourth was Alyssa Johnson from Wingate with a time of 18:59. Hannah Cook from Brevard crossed the line in fifth with a time of 19:07. Mars Hills's Kristen Trammell's time of 19:10 was good for sixth. Morgan Neher of Wingate finished the course in a time of 19:12 to place seventh and Haylee Love of Anderson earned Freshman of the Year honors with an eighth place time of 19:15. Lenoir-Rhyne's Chloe Newell was ninth with a time of 19:19. Alex Dixon was 10th as she crossed the line in a time of 19:25. Wingate claimed 11th, 12th and 13th positions with Sam Hering (19:30), Valarie Griesche (19:31) and Bri Stevens (19:33) closed out the list of All-Conference honorees for the women.
Joseph Soehnlen of Wingate earned was tabbed Coach of the Year.
