The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played during the eleventh week of the 2023 season. Wingate swept the awards, as Maggie Young was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Emily Johnson was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Young, a graduate student from Waxhaw, N.C., had three big matches, ending her regular season as the league leader in hitting percentage. She needed just 56 swings to collect 31 kills, hitting .500 while committing just three errors on the week, adding nine blocks, six digs, and five aces. She started her week with eight kills in 13 swings in the Coker sweep, adding three blocks. Young had 11 kills in 18 swings at UVA Wise, hitting .500 with four more blocks, two digs and an ace. Young capped the regular season with 12 kills and no errors at Emory & Henry, adding four aces, four digs and two blocks.

Johnson, a sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo., piled up 11 more blocks on the week. Johnson had three blocls in the Coker win as the 'Dogs held the Cobras to just 22 kills and a .041 hitting percentage. She had a block in the UVA Wise sweep, holding the Cavaliers to a .150 hitting percentage. She capped her regular season with seven blocks at Emory & Henry, holding the Wasps to a .071 hitting percentage. Johnson also collected 30 kills against just six errors on the week, hitting .333 while adding five digs.
