ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Lindsay McCurley was voted 2022 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
McCurley, a senior Elementary Education major, has a 4.0 grade point average and was named the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Wealth Enhancement Group Elite 23 Award winner. She is a repeat honoree on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society.
"Lindsay has been a true leader, athlete and scholar at Anderson University for the past four seasons," said Anderson head volleyball coach Todd Hay. "She brings a joy and welcoming spirit to all those around her and willingly serves others on our campus community. The team and I are extremely proud of her for winning this award and representing AU in such a positive light. Congratulations, Lindsay!"
On the court, McCurley leads the team and ranks fourth in the league with 37 service aces and ranks 10th in Anderson's school record books with 123 career service aces. McCurley has tallied double-figure digs nine times, including a season-high 25 at Catawba. She was named the Jimmy Johns Player of the Week as a sophomore and earned SAC All-Freshman Team honors during the 2019 season.
A native of Simpsonville, S.C., McCurley is active on and off the court in the Anderson community. She is the President of Anderson's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which was recently honored for raising the most money of any SAC school for the Make-A-Wish foundation and helped AU earn a "wish reveal" on campus.
