The South Atlantic Conference Announces Volleyball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– The South Atlantic Conference announced its Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the week for matches played during the first week of the 2022 season. Carson-Newman's Julia Wheeler took the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Anderson's Jaelyn Grimm was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Wheeler, a senior outside hitter, helped lead the Eagles to a 3-1 record this past weekend. She opened the weekend with 22 kills, 10 digs, two service aces and one block against Alabama Huntsville. She went on to garner 19 kills and 18 digs in their match against Trevecca Nazarene, 17 kills, eight digs and two service aces in a victory over King and 11 kills, one block and eight digs in a win over Christian Brothers. Overall, the Murfreesboro, Tenn., native averaged 4.60 kills per set, 2.93 digs per set and 0.27 service aces per set. This Wheeler's first Offensive Player of the Week Honor this season.
A junior middle blocker from Cedar Park, TX., Grimm, helped the Trojans open the regular season with a 3-1 record. Overall, she averaged 1.53 blocks per set for 23 total blocks, 1.13 kills per set, and 0.47 digs per set for seven digs and two assists. This is Grimm's first Defensive player of the Week Honor this season.
