The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Volleyball Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the week for matches played during the eighth week of the 2021 season. Carson-Newman's Julia Wheeler takes the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Rachel Bewick was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Wheeler, a redshirt sophomore outside hitter, helped lead the Eagles to a 4-1 record this past weekend in the SAC/Peach Belt Crossover Tournament. She opened the week with 15 kills, eight digs, two assists and three blocks in a sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne. Overall, the Murfreesboro, Tenn., native averaged a .216 hitting percentage putting up 101 points with 85 kills, she also added 71 digs and 10 service aces. She is ranked second overall for kills per set and first in kills overall for the SAC. This is Wheeler's second Offensive Player of the Week Honor this season. 

A senior libero from Greenville N.C., Bewick helped the Bears to a 3-2 record this past weekend in the SAC/Peach Belt Crossover Tournament. Overall, she averaged 6.38 digs per set with 134 digs and 17 assists. Bewick is currently ranked first in the SAC for her digs per set with 5.71. This is Bewick's second Defensive player of the Week Honor this season.
