The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Volleyball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the week for matches played during the first week of the 2021 season. Tusculum's Raeley Matthews takes Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Anderson's Noelle Knutsen was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Matthews, a junior outside hitter, helped lead the Pioneers to a 3-1 record this past weekend at the IUP Invitational. She tallied 14 kills, a career-high 17 digs and one service ace in their win over Shepherd. Matthews went on to help her team to two more wins over Frostburg and Ohio Dominion making the Pioneers event champions. Overall, the Okeechobee, Fla., native averaged 3.44 kills per set, 3.31 digs per set and had a total of 55 kills on the weekend. This is Matthews' first Offensive Player of the Week Honor this season.
A Senior Middle blocker from Parker, Colo., Knusten, helped lead the Trojans to a 2-2 record this past weekend at the Angelo State Invitational, where she was named to the tournaments All-Tournament Team. Overall, she averaged 0.88 blocks per set, while putting down 43 kills for a .286 hitting percentage and even tallied three digs. She ranks second in the South Atlantic Conference in block assists and ranks third in total blocks, while standing ninth in kills and 13th in kills per set. This is Knutsen's first Defensive player of the Week Honor this season.
