Wingate’s Abby Saehler Earns AVCA Honorable Mention All-American Honors
Lexington, Ky.----Wingate University senior right-side hitter Abby Saehler (Iowa City, Iowa) has been named an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Saehler earns All-American accolades for the second time in her career. A third team All-American in 2014, Saehler is the only player from the South Atlantic Conference to earn All-American recognition this season.
"We are all very happy for Abby being selected for this honor and we are proud of her for having a senior season that was deserving of this recognition," head coach Shelton Collier says. "She had a significant increase in her level of responsibility this year playing a new position that she had never played before. She was also coming back from a major knee surgery, so it is special for her to receive such a prestigious honor."
This marks the 10th consecutive season a Wingate player has earned All-American consideration. The first was in 2007, when Melissa DeLuca was an AVCA honorable mention All-American. Stormi Gale was an honorable mention All-American in 2008, while earning All-American accolades from Daktronics and the AVCA in 2009 and 2010.
