The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week, Oct. 28

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played Oct. 20-26.  Lenior-Rhyne outside hitter Ashley Wells was tabbed the Player of the Week, while teammate setter Brianna Gottberg was named the Specialist of the Week.

Wells, a junior from Lovingston, Ga., put away 42 kills and averaged 3.0 kills per set to lead the Bears to three road wins last week.  She posted double-digit kills in each of her three matches and highlighted her week with 16 kills in a 3-2 win over Carson-Newman on Oct. 25.  Wells also came up with 10 digs and turned away five attacks in the three-match span.  For the week, she hit .243 and posted 44.5 points.  The honor is her first Player of the Week nod this season. 

Gottberg, a junior from Mooresville, N.C., dished out 114 assists and posted three double-doubles in the Bears' three wins last week.  She got her week started with 34 assists, 12 digs, five blocks, an ace and a kill as Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Newberry 3-2 on Oct. 21.  Two days later at Lincoln Memorial, Gottberg handed out 47 helpers to go along with 19 digs, three blocks and one kill in a 3-2 win.  At Carson-Newman on Oct. 25, she posted 33 assists, 12 digs, three blocks, four kills and one ace.  In the three-match span, Gottberg averaged 7.60 assists per set and posted 14 points.  The award is her second Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
