The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week, Oct. 14
Carson-Newman outside hitter Rachel Harper was tabbed the Player of the Week, while teammate setter Kristen Pickett was named the Specialist of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played Oct. 6-12. Carson-Newman outside hitter Rachel Harper was tabbed the Player of the Week, while teammate setter Kristen Pickett was named the Specialist of the Week.
Harper, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., put down 44 kills, averaged 4.0 kills per set and recorded three double-doubles to lead her squad to three South Atlantic Conference wins last week. She posted a career-high five aces against Anderson on Oct. 10 and followed with a season-best 17 kills at Newberry the next day. For the week, Harper found the floor for nine aces and came away with 44 digs and six blocks. She totaled 56 points in the three-match span and averaged 5.1 points per set. The honor is her third South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week nod this season.
Pickett, a senior from Cleveland, Tenn., dished out 112 assists to average 10.18 assists per set in the Eagles' three wins last week. She got her week started with 37 assists in a 3-0 win at Lincoln Memorial on Oct. 7. She matched that effort with 37 assists as Carson-Newman downed Anderson, 3-0. She closed her week out with 38 assists in a 3-2 win at Newberry. Pickett also chipped in five kills, six aces, 29 digs and a block on the week. The award marks her second South Atlantic Conference Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
