The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week, Oct. 7
No. 9 Wingate outside hitter Shelly Stumpff was tabbed the Player of the Week, while teammate setter Alison Cooke was named the Specialist of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played Sept. 29-Oct. 5. No. 9 Wingate outside hitter Shelly Stumpff was tabbed the Player of the Week, while teammate setter Alison Cooke was named the Specialist of the Week.
Stumpff, a junior from Iowa City, Ia., posted two double-doubles to lead her squad to a pair of South Atlantic Conference road wins last week and sole possession of first-place in the League standings. She got her week started with 11 kills, 16 digs, four blocks and two aces as Wingate downed Lincoln Memorial, 3-1, on Oct. 3. The next day against Carson-Newman, Stumpff found the floor for 11 kills to go along with a .417 average at the net, 16 digs, two aces and a block in a 3-0 win over the Eagles. For the week, Stumpff averaged 3.14 kills per set as well as 4.1 points per set. The honor marks her first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Cooke, a senior from Davidson, N.C., totaled 68 assists and 9.71 assists per set in Wingate's two wins last week. Against LMU, she dished out 36 helpers and chipped in 10 digs, two aces, two blocks and three kills. She followed that effort with 32 assists, seven digs, two blocks and four kills. She finished the week with four blocks, three aces and 17 digs. The award is her second Specialist of the Week nod this season.
