The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week, Sept. 23
Carson-Newman outside hitter Rachel Harper was tabbed the Player of the Week, while Wingate setter Alison Cooke was named the Specialist of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played Sept. 15-21. Carson-Newman outside hitter Rachel Harper was tabbed the Player of the Week, while Wingate setter Alison Cooke was named the Specialist of the Week.
Harper, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., hit .434, posted 4.44 kills per set and came up with 22 digs to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record in Conference play last week. She posted double-digit kills in each of her matches, including 14 kills in a 3-0 win over Tusculum on Sept. 16. Harper highlighted her week with 13 kills, a .478 average at the net, four aces, seven digs and three blocks as Carson-Newman defeated Catawba, 3-0, on Sept. 20. For the week, she posted 40 kills, six total blocks, five aces and notched 48 total points. The honor marks her second Player of the Week nod this season.
Cooke, a senior from Davidson, N.C., averaged 11.14 assists per set to help the Bulldogs to a 3-0 League record last week. The centerpiece of her week came on Sept. 20 vs. Lenoir-Rhyne as she dished out 32 assists, to go along with 10 digs, one block and one ace in Wingate's 3-0 win over the Bears. Cooke totaled 78 assists on the week and chipped in 15 digs, two blocks and four kills. The honor marks her first Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
Also nominated for volleyball Player of the Week: Rachel Ruble (Brevard), Rebecca Cochran (Queens), Megan Hasse (Tusculum) and Shelly Stumpff (Wingate).
