INDIANAPOLIS – SAC teams account for seven of the 10 spots in this week's NCAA Division II Volleyball southeast region rankings, including top-seeded Wingate, the association announced on Wednesday.
In addition to Wingate in the top spot, the SAC is represented in the poll by No. 3 Lincoln Memorial, No. 4 Anderson, No. 5 Newberry, No. 6 Tusculum, No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne and No. 10 Mars Hill.
Wingate earns the No. 1 ranking for the second-straight week after clinching the program's eighth-straight SAC title. The Bulldogs – who have won 21-straight matches – are 24-2 overall and 20-0 in the conference. WU was also ranked No. 9 in this week's AVCA national coaches' poll.
LMU and Newberry both maintained their same regional rankings from last week, while Tusculum dropped two spots and Lenoir-Rhyne dropped one. Anderson and Mars Hill are both newcomers to this week's poll, which is the second of three releases prior to NCAA Championship selections.
LMU is 17-11, Anderson 14-12, Newberry 17-10, Tusculum 19-8, Lenoir-Rhyne 15-9 and Mars Hill is 15-10 overall. All seven SAC teams in this week's regional rankings have clinched spots in the 2013 Food Lion SAC Volleyball Championship bracket, and just three matches separate the current No. 2 through No. 8 positions in the conference standings.
