Wingate Duo Earns SAC Volleyball Weekly Awards
Following a week in which their team clinched its eighth-straight SAC title, Wingate sophomore Shelly Stumpff and junior Alison Cooke have been selected as the conference’s Players of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Following a week in which their team clinched its eighth-straight SAC title, Wingate sophomore Shelly Stumpff and junior Alison Cooke have been selected as the conference's Players of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
SAC Volleyball Player of the Week | Shelly Stumpff, Wingate
Stumpff averaged 3.43 kills and 2.57 digs while hitting at a .404 clip as Wingate earned road wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Brevard. The victories stretched WU's winning streak to 20-straight matches.
Stumpff opened her week by posting a double-double of 17 kills and 12 digs at Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, then recorded seven kills and six digs at BC on Saturday. She also added three blocks, an assist and an ace in the two matches.
The reigning SAC Freshman of the Year is averaging 2.38 kills per set this season, and her average of 0.35 aces per set ranks ninth in the conference.
SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week | Alison Cooke, Wingate
Cooke repeats as SAC Specialist of the Week after averaging 11.5 assists and three digs per set last week for the Bulldogs. She also added three blocks and two kills while hitting .286.
On Friday, Cooke piled up 55 assist and 14 digs in a five-set victory at Lenoir-Rhyne, then added 14 assists and four digs in a sweep of Brevard on Saturday.
Cooke currently ranks fourth in the conference with an average of 9.18 assists per set.
