Newberry’s King, Wingate’s Cooke Voted as SAC Volleyball Players of the Week
Newberry junior Jessica King and Wingate junior Alison Cooke have been named the SAC Volleyball Player and Specialist of the Week for matches played Oct. 28 through Nov. 3, the conference office announced Monday.

King led Newberry to an unbeaten week by average 2.38 kills and 1.23 blocks per set in the Wolves' victories over Lenoir-Rhyne, Brevard and GRU-Augusta.
King opened the week with a match-high 15 kills to go along with six blocks and four digs in a 3-2 Newberry victory over L-R on Friday, then totaled 16 kills, four digs and three blocks in a double-header sweep of BC and GRU-Augusta on Saturday. She hit .362 in the three matches.
The junior's 74 blocks this season lead the conference.
SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week | Alison Cooke, Wingate
Cooke averaged 7.71 assists, 2.0 digs and 1.14 kills per set last week as Wingate clinched at least a share of its eighth-straight SAC title with wins over Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial.
Cooke had 28 assists, nine digs and five kills on Friday at Carson-Newman before posting 26 assists, five digs and three kills on Saturday at LMU. The Bulldogs won both matches 3-1, extending their conference winning streak to 32-straight.
Cooke is averaging 8.95 assists per set this season, currently the fourth-best average in the SAC.
