Anderson’s Gillespie, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Gottberg Named SAC Volleyball Players of the Week
After leading their teams to respective 3-0 records last week, Anderson junior Shannon Gillespie and Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Briana Gottberg have been voted as the SAC volleyball weekly award winners.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – After leading their teams to respective 3-0 records last week, Anderson junior Shannon Gillespie and Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Briana Gottberg have been voted as the SAC volleyball weekly award winners.
SAC Volleyball Player of the Week | Shannon Gillespie, Anderson
Gillespie led Anderson to a 3-0 week by averaging 4.67 kills and 3.5 digs per set in matchups with Newberry, Queens and Catawba. She also hit .296 and added three blocks in the trio of matches.
Gillespie had double-doubles in all three contests, posting 17 kills and 11 digs on Tuesday against Newberry, 17 kills and 13 digs on Friday at Queens, and 22 kills and 18 digs at Catawba on Saturday.
On the season, Gillespie leads the SAC with an average of 3.95 kills per set.
SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week | Briana Gottberg, Lenoir-Rhyne
Gottberg averaged 11 assists and 2.58 digs per set last week as Lenoir-Rhyne picked up three conference wins against Brevard, Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial.
Gottberg had performances of 31 assists and nine digs against Brevard and 51 assists and nine digs versus Carson-Newman before posting a double-double of 50 assists and 13 digs against LMU. She also added six kills, six blocks and three aces on the week.
The sophomore currently leads the SAC win an average of 10.04 assists per set.
