Wingate’s Hilton, Newberry’s Moran Earn SAC Volleyball Weekly Awards
Wingate senior Anna Hilton and Newberry sophomore Rachel Moran have earned the first SAC volleyball weekly awards of the 2013 season, it was announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate senior Anna Hilton and Newberry sophomore Rachel Moran have earned the first SAC volleyball weekly awards of the 2013 season, it was announced on Monday.
Hilton – last year's SAC Player of the Year – was one of the top players at the highly-competitive Concordia Tournament over the weekend. She averaged 3.10 kills, 3.15 digs, 0.40 assists and 0.75 blocks per set as Wingate went 3-2 at the event. Four of WU's matches came against nationally-ranked opponents.
Hilton had a pair of double-doubles on the week. She posted 18 kills and 24 digs on Friday in a 3-2 win over Hillsdale, then recorded 13 kills and 15 digs on Saturday in a 3-1 victory over No. 11 Colorado Mines. The senior also reached double-digit kills in the Bulldogs' narrow 3-2 loss to No. 9 Indianapolis on Friday.

Moran, meanwhile, helped Newberry open the season 4-0 by averaging a SAC-best 11.89 assists per set. She also added a total 11 kills and 11 digs on the week. The sophomore setter hit .375 in the Wolves' three matches while committing no ball-handling errors.
Moran's top performance came on Saturday in a 3-1 win at Francis Marion, where she finished with 49 assists, five kills and three digs.
