Multiple SAC Volleyball Players Earn Spots on All-Region Teams
A total of eight volleyball student-athletes have earned All-Southeast Region accolades on the AVCA and Daktronics All-Region Teams, which were recently announced.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – A total of eight volleyball student-athletes have earned All-Southeast Region accolades on the AVCA and Daktronics All-Region Teams, which were recently announced.
SAC players landed seven spots on the AVCA All-Southeast Region Team, led by a conference-high three from Wingate. SAC Player of the Year Anna Hilton, who finished second in the league in hitting percentage at .316, was an AVCA All-Region selection, as were WU teammates Lexi Potter and Shelly Stumpff.
Stumpff, the 2012 SAC Freshman of the Year, was also named the Southeast Region Freshman of the Year by the AVCA.
Hilton and Potter were All-SAC First Team picks, while Stumpff was a second-team selection.
Tusculum, the runner-up to Wingate in the SAC regular season and Food Lion SAC Championship, had two AVCA All-Region selections in Caitlyn Dean and Kassie Voelker.
Dean led the nation in digs in 2012, averaging 7.80 per set, which is currently on pace to set a new NCAA Division II record. Voelker, meanwhile, ranked sixth in the conference in hitting percentage at .284 and ninth in blocks with 76.
Catawba's Caitlyn Whitmer, who led the SAC in kills with 463, was an AVCA All-Region Selection, as was Lincoln Memorial's Blaire Fowler, who finished second in kills with 462.
Voelker, Dean, Whitmer and Fowler were all earlier named to the 2012 All-SAC First Team.
The SAC also had five players named to the 2012 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team. Hilton was a first-team pick, while Dean, Fowler, Stumpff and Newberry's Samantha Parrish were selected to the Second Team.
Parrish ranked third in the SAC with 453 kills and seventh in digs with 481 in 2012.
