Five SAC Teams Ranked in First NCAA Volleyball Regional Poll
Five teams from the South Atlantic Conference have been ranked in the first NCAA volleyball Southeast Region poll of the 2012 season, led by No. 1 Wingate.
INDIANAPOLIS – Five teams from the South Atlantic Conference have been ranked in the first NCAA volleyball Southeast Region poll of the 2012 season, led by No. 1 Wingate.
The regional rankings are the official poll used in the NCAA Volleyball Championship selection process. They are voted on by the NCAA Division II Volleyball Committee.
The Bulldogs earned the Southeast Region's No. 1 ranking on the merits of a 21-2 overall record. WU has won 12-straight matches, and leads the SAC standings at 11-2 in conference play.
Wingate has dropped just 10 games in its 13 SAC matches so far this season.
The remaining four SAC teams are bunched together in the middle of the poll. Tusculum is the second-highest ranked SAC team, earning this week's No. 4 ranking. The Pioneers are currently 17-6 overall and 11-4 in league play.
TC is followed in the poll by No. 5 Lincoln Memorial, No. 6 Newbery and No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne. LMU is currently third in the SAC standings at 8-4 in the conference and 16-10 overall.
Lenoir-Rhyne is 16-8 overall, while Newberry is 16-11. The Bears sit at No. 4 in the conference standings at 8-5, while the Wolves are currently fifth at 9-6.
Regional rankings will be released each week leading up to NCAA Volleyball Championship selections.
