SAC Volleyball Weekly Awards go to Catawba’s Whitmer, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Lutz
As the SAC volleyball season reaches its second half, Catawba senior Kaitlyn Whitmer and Lenoir-Rhyne senior Meredith Lutz have been selected as the conference’s weekly award winners, it was announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – As the SAC volleyball season reaches its second half, Catawba senior Kaitlyn Whitmer and Lenoir-Rhyne senior Meredith Lutz have been selected as the conference's weekly award winners, it was announced on Monday.
Whitmer had a huge week for Catawba, notching a pair of double-doubles to earn SAC Player of the Week honors. On Friday, she recorded 23 kills, 19 digs and three aces in the Indians' upset 3-1 win at Tusculum.
Whitmer then added 26 kills and 15 digs on Saturday in a 3-2 loss at Mars Hill.
For the week, the Ferrum, Va., native averaged 5.44 kills and 3.78 digs per set while hitting .298. She is now sixth on Catawba's career kill list with 1,343.

Lutz, meanwhile, was named the league's Specialist of the Week after leading L-R to three non-conference victories at the Lees-McRae Tournament over the weekend. She averaged 11 assists and 2.36 digs per set in the three contests, while also adding 11 kills and two aces.
The Newton, S.C., native's best performance came on Saturday in a 3-2 win over Lander, where she finished with a double-double of 53 assists and 15 digs to go along with nine kills.
Lutz currently leads L-R and is fifth in the SAC with 563 assists this season.
