Newberry’s Parrish, Wingate’s Cooke Earn SAC Volleyball Weekly Awards
Newberry’s Samantha Parrish has been named the first SAC Volleyball Player of the Week of the 2012 season, while Wingate’s Alison Cooke was selected as the league’s Specialist of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Newberry's Samantha Parrish has been named the first SAC Volleyball Player of the Week of the 2012 season, while Wingate's Alison Cooke was selected as the league's Specialist of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Parrish led Newberry to its first 4-0 start since 2007 by posting three double-doubles and averaging a conference-best 3.71 kills per set last week.
The junior also recorded a league-high eight aces in the four wins and averaged 3.36 digs per set.

Cooke, meanwhile, helped Wingate go 3-0 in the season's opening week – extending the program's regular-season win streak to 53-straight matches.
For the week, Cooke tallied 51 assists, 19 digs and two aces. Her best performance came in a 3-0 win over Winston-Salem St., where the sophomore finished with 21 assists, four digs and an ace.
