Seven SAC Volleyball Teams In NCAA Region Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee has released this week's regional rankings, with seven South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the top 10 of the Southeast Region.
Wingate University remains ranked No. 1 in the region. The Bulldogs are 23-1 overall and 16-0 in the SAC, riding a 21-match winning streak. Wingate has been the top-ranked team in the region in every poll since the start of the 2008 season. The Bulldogs have hosted the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament the last two years.
Tusculum College is third in the rankings. Lincoln Memorial remains at fourth. Carson-Newman College moves up one spot to sixth. Catawba College jumps into the poll at number seven, while Anderson University is ninth and Lenoir-Rhyne University is tenth.
The rankings include the top 10 teams in each of the eight regions, with records through November 1. The next rankings will be released November 10. The national selections will be Nov. 14. Tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas will receive automatic bids to NCAA Southeast Regional in November. The five remaining top-ranked programs will earn at-large bids to the eight-team regional.
Eight eight-team regional tournaments will be played Nov. 18-21 at campus sites. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be Dec. 2-4 at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.
