Wingate Leads Five SAC Volleyball Teams In Region Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS -- Heading into the 2009 Food Lion SAC Tournament, Wingate University continues to hold the top spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region volleyball rankings for the results ending Nov. 8, and is one of five South Atlantic Conference teams in the top 10.
Carson-Newman also moves up one position in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings to the number four spot. Catawba College was the big mover, climbing from 10th in the last poll two weeks ago to fifth.
Lincoln Memorial University stands eighth, while Tusculum College is 10th in the poll.
The rankings are the official determinant for NCAA postseason play. Eight teams from the region will make the tournament.
Conference tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas will earn automatic bids into the NCAA Division II Tournament. Five more teams from the region will receive at-large bids to the eight-team region tournament.
The playoff pairings for the 2009 NCAA Division II Tournament will be released Sunday night at 9:00 p.m., via webcast on www.ncaa.com.
