Carson-Newman’s Fleck, Catawba’s Courson Named Volleyball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman College senior outside hitter Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) is this week's South Atlantic Conference volleyball Player of the Week. Catawba College freshman setter Megan Courson (Statesville, N.C.) is the SAC volleyball Specialist of the Week. Both Fleck and Courson earn SAC honors for the first time in their careers.
A graduate of Celina High School, Kelsey Fleck led the Eagles to a 4-0 week. Carson-Newman picked up key wins over Lincoln Memorial and Lander. In the regional victory over the Lander Bearcats, Fleck posted 16 kills, eight blocks and a .481 hitting percentage. In the 3-0 victory over LMU, she recorded eight kills. Fleck had 12 kills in a non-conference victory over local rival King.

For the week, Fleck posted a .410 hitting percentage (43 kills, nine errors, 83 total attacks) with 13 total blocks. On the season, Fleck hits at a .274 clip with 2.47 kills per game and 0.58 blocks per contest. Carson-Newman is 16-11 overall (4-3 SAC) entering this week's play.
Catawba freshman setter Megan Courson guided Catawba to a pair of sweeps last week as the Tribe moved into second place in the SAC standings. A West Iredell High School product, Courson dished out 35 assists in a Friday night victory over Brevard. On Saturday, she had 29 assists and three kills in a triumph over Newberry.
For the week, she totaled 64 assists over six sets for a 10.7 assists per set average.
In addition, Courson picked up 12 digs on the week for a 2.0 average. The first-year player added six kills, four blocks and an ace. Courson is averaging 9.8 assists per set since taking over the primary setter position for the Catawba Indians. Catawba is 8-2 overall in those 10 matches. Catawba has won five straight matches entering this week's play.
