Wingate’s Melissa DeLuca Named Volleyball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University senior setter Melissa DeLuca, of Bahama, N.C., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 21. DeLuca earns the honor for the second time in three weeks after helping the Bulldogs to a pair of wins.
DeLuca, a former standout at Northern Durham High School,
totaled 83 assists, while adding 22 digs, three kills, two blocks
and an ace as Wingate improved to 26-1 overall and 10-0 in the SAC.
In the win against USC-Aiken she had 35 assists and two blocks then
followed with 48 assists, 19 digs, three kills and an ace in the
league win over Catawba.
For the week, DeLuca averaged 13.8 assists and 3.7 digs over six games. She currently stands second in the conference with an average of 12.76 assists per game and ranks third at Wingate with 2.83 digs per game.
The SAC Volleyball Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
