Wingate’s DeLuca Named Volleyball Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. ­- Wingate University setter Melissa DeLuca, of Bahama, N.C., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7. DeLuca earns the honor for the second time in her career as she received the award once last season.

DeLuca, a former standout at Northern Durham High School, helped Wingate to three wins last week to keep the Bulldogs undefeated in league play. The senior posted 130 assists over 10 games as the Bulldogs hit at a 23.5 percent clip.

For the week, DeLuca averaged 13 assists per game and added 3.3 digs and 0.9 blocks. She had double-doubles in assists and digs in a pair of matches and nearly recorded a triple double in a win over Lincoln Memorial with 63 assists, 16 digs and seven blocks.

The SAC Volleyball Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
