Catawba’s Melissa Griffith Named Volleyball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Catawba College junior outside hitter Melissa Griffith, of Williamsburg, Va., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Sept.16.
Griffith helped the Catawba Indians to a pair of wins last week, including a victory in their league-opener at Newberry. It marks the second time that Griffith has earned the SAC honor as she was recognized once last year.
The former Lafayette High School product posted 25 kills in each
of Catawba's two league games last week.
She had double-doubles in both of those matches, recording 22 digs
at Newberry and 15 in a five-game loss to Tusculum. The junior also
surpassed 1,000 career kills in the Tusculum match, now totaling
1,010 in two and half seasons.
For the week, Griffith registered 64 kills and had a .400 hitting percentage. She added 42 digs, four aces and a block. The outside hitter is averaging 3.8 kills and 5.2 digs per game this season in helping Catawba to a 13-2 record.
The SAC Volleyball Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
